"High Falls on the Rondout Creek"
William Rickarby Miller
Gouache on paper, 1865

This painting depicts D&H Canal Locks 13 & 14 on the Rondout Creek in High Falls. Noted Hudson River School painter William Rickarby Miller immigrated to the US from England in 1844. He earned his living doing portraiture and illustrations for books and magazines. He was most proficient at watercolor, but did hundreds of oil paintings and pen & ink drawings.
