Evading the Bureaucracy and Governing New York City

  • D&H Canal Historical Society 1315 Rte 213 High Falls United States (map)

Presented by Nancy Bachana and Matt Berlin.

Both presenters served in major roles in the Bloomberg Administration. Ms. Bachana was an Assistant Director of the Mayor’s Office and also Chief of Staff to the Deputy Commissioner of Transportation. She is now Director of Education of the Canal Society.

Mr. Berlin is currently the CEO of the NYC School Bus Umbrella Services, a $200 million non-profit school bus company working to reform NYC's notoriously inefficient, expensive  school bus industry. Prior to founding NYCSBUS, Matt was a member of the administration of Michael Bloomberg, working as a fix-it person as the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Medical Examiner, starting an agency to support economic development in Downtown Brooklyn and at the Department of Education where for five years he ran the transportation department. He was the General Manager of NYC's Citibike system from soon after its launch until its sale. He serves on the Canal Society’s board of directors and is the Canal Society’s Treasurer.
