Hands-on canal history! Over four weekly sessions, children ages 7–10 will discover how the Delaware & Hudson Canal shaped New York through fun STEAM activities, games, puzzles, and crafts.
Each session begins with a slide-show INTRO and ends with an active game of “Captain Says.” Each week features a different activity but kids can count on getting a little wet working a model lock and a bilge pump.
Come for one session or all four!
Parents can relax while the program is underway or join in the fun. Siblings are welcome with a parent chaperone.
Aug 12: Hoggee Hunt! Complete a challenge by finding and defining objects in the museum.
Aug 19: Learn Morse Code! Learn about the Telegraph House on our towpath. Make a coded bracelet
Aug 26: Move Cargo! Move coal by wagon and by canal barge to compare friction and buoyancy.
Sep 2: Explore Canals in Books and Movies! Meet the author of The Key to Puzzler’s Lock and solve a cipher.
