With New York State Historian, Devin Lander

On April 25, 2025, the D&H Canal Historical Society will host A Day of History in High Falls, NY. This full-day event aims to bring together historians, land conservationists, cultural institutions, and community members to explore the intersection of historic preservation, innovation, and public engagement.

Daheim: A Hudson Valley and National Treasure

The day will begin with a brunch, “Daheim: A Hudson Valley and National Treasure,” where New York State Historian Devin Lander will present on the historic Hitchcock Estate in Millbrook, a Hudson Valley landmark with a rich and complex history. The discussion will provide insight into efforts to preserve the estate for public benefit, offering a case study in land conservation, adaptive reuse, and cultural heritage preservation.

Unlocking History: Innovative Approaches to Preservation and Public Engagementlic Engagement

Join Professor Thomas Wermuth of Marist College, and esteemed historians for a panel discussion related to challenges and opportunities for museums and historic sites in New York. The panel includes D&H Canal Historical Society Historian/Curator Bill Merchant, Ulster County Historian Eddie Moran, and Devin Lander. This event is coordinated in partnership with the Hudson River Valley Institute of Marist College.
