D&H Canal in Ellenville, 1890s
This painting
features a lively scene of the D&H Canal operations in Ellenville.
While residents look on, the locktender in the lower right hand
corner announces the oncoming barge, while operating the lock from his
gearhouse. To the left of the Canal, men are
hard at work building a new barge. The signs
for many of the shops, featuring local family names, are clearly
visible.
